HOWTO
Make Research Data Publicly Available
What Is Research Data Management?
At the Ninth Integrated Innovation Strategy Promotion Council (held on April 27, 2021), the “Basic Approach to the Management and Utilization of Publicly Funded Research Data” was presented.
According to this statement, regarding publicly funded research, researchers are required to create a Data Management Plan (DMP) based on the standards of funding agencies, and to manage research data appropriately in accordance with the DMP. Additionally, keeping in mind the Open-and-Closed Strategy and the FAIR Principles, researchers should determine, as necessary, which research data to make public from the data they manage. For research data to be publicly released, it is recommended that metadata be assigned and made publicly available.

Before Making Research Data Publicly Available
The decision whether or not to share the research data is up to the researcher. However, there may be conditions or restrictions on the publication of research data due to the characteristics of the research field, international norms, domestic and foreign laws and regulations, university regulations, and collaborative research contracts. Before disclosing research data, please make sure to confirm whether there are any such conditions or restrictions.
Please refer to the “Waseda University Research Data Management and Publishing Policy” (Jan. 2024) when determining whether or not to disclose your research data.
How to Share Research Data (Evidence Supporting Papers)
Methods for sharing research data include registering it in institutional or subject repositories. If you choose to publish in a subject repository, please select one that is indexed and searchable in CiNii Research. If you choose to publish it in the Waseda University Repository (institutional repository), please see the information below.
Waseda University Research Data Management and Sharing Policy
Waseda University has established the “Waseda University Research Data Management and Publishing Policy” as a fundamental concept for managing and sharing various research data collected and generated by Waseda University researchers in their research activities, from the perspective of open science.
